Headie One hits out a warning shot with ‘Turnt To A Target’
Headie One is back, coming for the crown, the culture and anyone still sleeping on him. The North London don has just announced his new mixtape ‘Monday Marathon Music’, kicking things off with a single that hits like a warning shot.
Headie doesn’t do quiet entrances. ‘Turnt To A Target’ says exactly what it means: a track about what happens when the come up turns into the come at you. Over moody, growling drill production, he lays out a truth nobody warns you about. The bigger you get, the bigger the target on your back.
Headie One- Turnt to a Target (Official Video)
As Headie explains: “Turnt to a target is a song about how along the journey of being a musician and building popularity you can turn to a target in all kinds of ways… target of attention, target of fans, target from the haters etc but we have to rise above and keep pushing.”
That tension runs through every bar, from luxury flexes to raw vulnerability, and it’s exactly why Headie remains one of British rap’s most magnetic storytellers.
Never one to stay in a lane, he’s long bridged UK rap with international hip hop, R&B and electronic sounds, all while staying true to the streets that shaped him. ‘Monday Marathon Music’ looks set to carry that same energy when it drops later this summer.
