Fresh off making waves this summer with her viral debut independent single (“uhm…ok?”), alternative R&B artist ilham is back in full force today with the contemporary R&B track “games” available to stream and watch now.
Featuring production by esteemed hitmakers including R&B recording artist Fridayy (Jay Z, DJ Khaled, Lil Baby), GRAMMY Award-nominatedKhaled Rohaim (Rihanna, Ariana Grande, The Kid Laroi), and recent Billboard chart-topping songwriter-producer Mombru (Muni Long, Fridayy, Xenia Manasseh), ilham floats on “games” with a feminine command that seduces with flair. The track begins with a cascading piano melody that quickly transitions to a hard-hitting bass line echoing ilham’s mood. “games” is a modern siren song, for the girls who’ve learned that playing is better than being played.
Speaking openly on the inspiration behind the song, ilham shares, ““games” is a song I wrote right after letting go of a team I once considered family. The realization that those around you may not have your best interests at heart is a terrifying feeling that can leave you blindsided. As a girl from the NYC projects trying to make my dreams come true, it’s shocking to see how easily some people can take advantage of you—a reality many artists face. While it’s a heartbreaking experience, the decision to remove myself from those who don’t truly celebrate me has been incredibly empowering; it’s a way to reclaim my power.”
The Moroccan-American singer-songwriter continues, “The line ‘games are being played, not on my watch’ was the first thing I mumbled in a session after recognizing that certain experiences shouldn’t control or dim your light. Instead, you learn and grow from them. That little girl with a dream is now sharper, wittier, and more confident than ever. I’m so excited to drop this song as one of my lead singles because it symbolizes rebirth, the fresh start that I deserve, that so many people deserve.”
“games” follows ilham’s summer release “uhm…ok?“, which premiered as a global exclusive on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show, reaching over 100 territories worldwide. Lowe hailed the sexy drill track as a “banger,” marking ilham’s return to the scene in over two years and bold independent debut that has since surpassed 1M streams to date. The song quickly made its mark on Spotify’s POLLEN playlist (1.3M followers) and achieved viral success, bolstered by a dynamic On The Radar Live Performance (WATCH HERE) that garnered 20M views and 100K likes on Twitter, along with 6M TikTok views.
